Psalm 27

Psalm 27 is beautiful poetry. If your looking at it right now, take time to imagine what God must look like when he sees you reading these words. There is a lot of encouragment in how we can stand against the odds. As a man, there is a side of God we see that is similar to a coach in our corner, cheering us on every day. If there is anything that people agree on, it is that life can be difficult. So difficult we don't like to talk about or deal with the reality of what we are facing. When God is in your corner, what can stand against you? As followers of Christ, we are not a group of people that are defending what we believe. We are standing in the only army to never lose. We are not the beaten, we are the victor. We are not the underdog, we are the only one in the fight.

Verse 13 blows me away, "I am still confident of this, I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." I'm not very political. I have my beliefs and morals and I vote with them. But in the big picture, I know little. But I do know this, the spineless beliefs of our country are not something we must be tolerant of. My prayer is to show people there is something worth believing in, and its the winning team. Those beliefs cannot be concured, and this country surely could begin its turn back to God. We are a body of believers, and I pray we stand with the confidence found in Psalm 27.

Tomorrow we read Philippians 1. I love Paul and everything he writes so this should be fun.

God Bless guys,
Nick

  1. Psalm 27 does read like God is our coach. After all, He does look over us and pushes us to live our lives to the fullest while following His words just like a football coach pushes his team to do their best and not get hurt.

Quote: As followers of Christ, we are not a group of people that are defending what we believe. We are standing in the only army to never lose. We are not the beaten, we are the victor. We are not the underdog, we are the only one in the fight.

I really like the way you put this Nick. Right on!

However in today's society, I think we are defending our faith by rejecting false claims of "missing links" and preventing atheists from abolishing our Bible. Our spiritual battle however is one that will we never have to worry about. Like I said before, God has our back and he will never let us down.

I pray that God keeps my family and I, friends and the members of our Church safe from harm. I pray that God helps me absorb and retain more Scripture as I continue to read. I pray that He helps me to continue to well with my studies. Guide me Lord, but only as you seem fit. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

  2. I found this Psalm interesting and hits home for me.

One - It shows me what having faith in God is about, and something that should be told to everyone I have contact with.

Two - It shows me that patience is key. The success in our battle with evil (Satan) will come in due time, when God is ready not us.

I am finding that I am questioning my faith and belief in the Lord. I am afraid that this is something that I shouldn't be doing; however, after reading this Psalm I think it's ok to question one's faith. I think I question my faith because, like our society today, I want results NOW!!! I am totally fall into the "instant gratification" group of people. If I want a play set for the kids, a new TV, book, or just about anything I whip out the credit card and get it. Is this the right attitude to have?

I am learning, the hard way most times, that with God there is no "instant gratification," or at least not all the time. Like a parent there are somethings that happen instant, and can be measured or seen. Also like a parent there are those times when one must wait with patience for the right time. Verse 14 states this very clearly "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."

Even thousands of years ago we are being told we today you will win your battle, the Lord is with you, but wait and you will see your victory. It might not happen today, or even tomorrow, but it will happen and rejoice in this knowledge.

  3. This passage has so much to say. People could write tons of pages on each scripture and I'm supposed to write one thought.

My favorite part is the confidence after what is enemies are doing to him. "evil men attack me...devour my flesh...war will break out against me...surround me...false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence." And after all this he says "I am still confident of this. I WILL see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." There's no doubt. He doesn't say I think the Lord is good. It takes a lot less to make me discouraged. It takes a lot less to make me mad, sad, or upset.

I pray for the leaders of this nation, the leaders of this church, and our days tomorrow. Give us confidence in our Lord.
