Today was short but sweet. One chapter is an easy read. A short read is good though because there is plenty of opportunity to concentrate on what the scripture is teaching. Being a Christian with Christian friends can make us feel confident in our faith. But when our faith is challenged in the presence of things that distract us from Christ, it can become easy to drift. As we take time to meditate on the scripture, I believe we will really begin to see strength in the moments of distraction.
In no way do I believe the text is saying we should avoid people that don't know our Lord. However, when we are in the those situations that we know it will take work to stand for our beliefs, even in daily situations, we must prepare our hearts to stand strong. I believe the love that Christ has shown us is something we should reflect. My prayer for today is to continue to medidtate on His word. I pray for strength to be an example. I don't want to dissapear in a crowd of people who don't know Christ. Instead I want that love to be shown in a way that others know there is something special going on in my life.
Tomorrows reading is Psalm 27. Hope to be reading your comments soon.

Psalm 1 is a good place to start this. Even though we are all sinners, our purpose isn't to follow sinners and those who mock God. Our purpose is to spread the Lord's name even if we get ridiculed. He has our back. We should fear no one or no thing. Non-believers have the rest of their lives to make a choice to follow God, but once their life is over and they still choose to reject Him, its too late. The ones that reject God are useless to Him and he will reject them in the end.
ReplyDeleteYes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. (Zechariah 7:12)
but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy.
(2 Chronicles 36:13)
I pray thanking God for helping me understand the Bible and applying it to my life. I pray that God can give me the knowledge when a skeptic asks me difficult questions. I ask God to help our church keep growing so that we can continue to make bigger positive impacts on the community. I pray for God to help non-believers understand where we are coming from and our purpose.

ReplyDeleteNick,
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that we are starting with Psalm 1. A good friend of mine told me once that as Christian men we should all strive to be "Psalm 1" men.
For me I see in the reading that we are taught, in one of many ways and times, that we reap what we sow. If we follow the ways of the sinner then we "are like chaff that the wind blows away." If we follow the Lord the we are "like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season."
I still need to pray and meditate more. In no way am I even close to being finished. I am still so very rough around the edges that I need major work to smooth those edges.
I pray that the Lord will give me courage to listen for my calling, and the strength to follow it when I hear it.
